Inputting and Registering Base Maps

You can overlay a contour map on a Drillinginfo bitmap or Terraserver Aerial Photo, or any other base map in DISurf. First, generate a base map in Drillinginfo and use the Print Map function on the Drillinginfo Map Page, or generate an Aerial Photo or USGS map by clicking Terraserver on the Drilinginfo Map Page. Alternatively, load some other bitmpa image relatingto your area as a jpg, gif, png, or bmp file. You can then attach the Base map with contour map and scale the two to match.

Open the Base Map Dialogue Box by either going to the Objects | Base Map menu or by clicking Base Map in the Map Tree.

The Add button adds a file in the list. The list can contain several positions for the same file. The Delete button removes a selected base map from the list. The Visible box shows or hides background images on a map. Set as Default automatically places the selected image on a new map. Rename gives the basemap and position a new name.

The base map background can be stretched to fill a full window, placed in the center of the contour map or, most importantly, rubber sheeted to align with data points by aligning two common coordinate points with the Assigning Coordinates button.

To Rubber Sheet the base map to contour data points:

1. Choose Link to Points and click the Assigning Coordinates button.
2. Scroll your pointer over the first point DATA location and write down the X and Y coordinates.

3. Double-click (or to enter manually) the first point's BASEMAP pixel location in pixels. In the entry box, type in the X and Y coordinates you defined in Step 1 for the DATA point coordinate.

4. Scroll your pointer over the second point DATA location and write down the X and Y coordinates.
5. Double-click (or to enter manually) the second point's pixel location in pixels. In the entry box, type in the X and Y coordinates you defined in Step 4 for the DATA point coordinate.

Make sure to check the Foreground and Transparent boxes to make a visible base map over color fill or color cell maps.

VOILA! You are base mapped!
